Our Caretaking Couple e-Book is coming along. The first several chapters are polished while the last few are still a bit…ahem…rough. Time to finish what I started, methinks!
I receive and respond to several questions about house and pet sitting and living simply in general via e-mail, and am doing my best to address the most relevant ones in this book. Now is is your chance…
If you have any questions/comments/suggestions of your own for us, I would love it if you would share them here on the blog (you can do this by clicking on the comments link). XOX,
V&P
I think it might be good to include a section on frequently asked questions and the answers.
My list of ? would include: how to write a resume if one is required
Are fees/pay always included? What level of maintenance work is usually expected? Who pays the utility bills? How do you get started?
Good luck with the book, can’t wait to read it!
See you next month!
Thanks, Peg! Section 2 includes FAQ, Pros and Cons, and Interviews : ) Your feedback gives me confidence that I am on the right track : ) See you SOON!
I have thoroughly enjoyed reading about your adventures and can’t wait to read your book! I don’t have to be involved in the caretaking lifestyle to find the concept fascinating and want to see more pictures and hear more about your adventures.
Yay! We have heard from a lot of people, saying that while they personally aren’t interested in this lifestyle, they do love living vicariously through our adventures : ) I will be posting lots more pics and ramblings as soon as we are done with our current sit (next month). I miss blogging but have made strides with the book (focus is my middle name – ha!).
*Blogs in the near future to include New Orleans, Lake Charles, Sedona, Vegas, and Portland. Very excited.
Caveats? If someone is unattached and thinking about pursuing a caretaking position, are there any reasons you might discourage him or her from giving it a try?
Yes, yes there are : ) It definitely is not for everyone. Some days I am not even sure it is for us : ) When I first began writing, it sounded a bit advertorial-ish. Thankfully, it has evolved into something more authentic. Thank you for this question, Casey. It is an important one!
What exactly are the expectations that pet sitters have of the people/home/pets for whom they are sitting? As someone who has many pets, I am always curious what the pet sitter is hoping for out of the situation.
Wow, another great question…thanks, Em! I can’t give you an exact answer as every sit (and every sitter and every homeowner) is a bit different…but I will be covering expectations (and the communication of them) for sure.
I think it’s awesome that you are tackling a book! Kudos to you! Can’t wait to read it.
Awe, thanks Lisa : ) Fingers crossed I find a publisher. At the very least, it will be available here on the blog.
Hi Valynne,
I’d like to see you include how you assimilated with the locals and local area, including relationships, adventures and things to do.
I know the book will be great however you choose to do it because it will have your wonderful spirit throughout.
xoxo Joyce
Why am I just now seeing this?! Great idea – I may even have to mention how I met my fabulous friend Joyce while on a sit in Cape Cod…and how she inspired me to write. XOX backatcha, V
