Coming Home to Evergreen, Colorado
Paul and I are headed west to Colorado in three weeks (WooooHoooo!). Taking a completely different route this time (MA, NJ, MD, VA, NC, SC, GA, etc. etc). We are definitely spending a day or two each in Chesapeake Bay and the Outer Banks.
Anyone have any other places en route that they just love and want to share with us? Can’t wait to catch up with our CO friends towards mid August…Paul is sure looking forward to a pint or two with friends!
Savannah!! It’s an absolutely lovely town/small city. Highly recommended. Have a great road trip!!

Go to Assateague Island when you are in Maryland. Stay away from the DC suburbs. Ocean City boardwalk is (or was, anyway) the old-school beach experience of American lore.
If I may suggest, take the extreme southerly route west (US Highway 90) from Pensacola to at least N’awlins. It cuts through the heart of “Katrina Country” and is something every American should see.

Figures! We will be headed to Massachusetts on August 8 for a couple of weeks. I had thought we might meet up for cocktails in my old stomping ground!!! Oh well, have a wonderful and safe trip.

“Take the ferry from Cafe Hatteras to Okracoke Island, see the wild horses, funky arsty stores and Blackbeard museum. Climb the Cape Hatteras lighthouse, go to Kitty Hawk if anywhere close to there – my personal favs!! Most important, hurry up and get here!! When will u be here? We must have a party!!!”
Thanks to you and a few others, we are staying on Okracoke Island for three days (we were going to stop there anyway but it sounds like this place deserves a bit more than that). Thank you for all of the great ideas! We will definitely have to party down next month : )
