This property boasts a pond out front and a bay out back. I am pretty sure my fascination with lily pads stems from the book, The Wind in the Willows, one of my childhood favorites. Or was it Thumbelina? Either way, lily pads never cease to enchant.
Paul has recently taken to…lawn mowing. Who’d have guessed? I fear I will have to remind him gently that when our time here is through, the lawn mower stays. Seriously.
It has been a rough couple of weeks for Milo, yet he continues to maintain a happy and sweet disposition.
His heart condition reminds us that he is no spring chicken (nearing thirteen, which is particularly old by retired racer standards). For a while there, it seemed like he was getting younger by the day…guess I was in denial. Plying him with meds and restricting his walks is not fun, as all of you animal lovers know.
Keep this aspect of sitting in mind, dear would-be caretakers. You are likely to become very attached to those left in your charge. I mean, just look at him. The epitome of adorable.
As ever, I look forward to your comments. Tell us all about your gardens, your animal friends, your favorite country songs…and remember, you can comment on any Caretaking Couple post at any time. It’s all relevant!
*One more thing…I am working on a destination article for my travel writing class. The subject matter? Downtown Evergreen, Colorado. Thoughts?
Valynne, I continue to enjoy your blogs and check them frequently. I didn’t realize that Milo was experiencing some health issues, poor baby.
Your container garden is looking good. I’ll have to send pics of my topsy turvy tomatoes.
Thanks, AE…I am going to have to post pics of the peas – they are just forming in the pods – very proud of the peas! Please send pics when you have a chance.
Milo has heart issues along with arthritis but he has been doing really well. A couple of weeks ago he started coughing during walks. We were hoping it was from the pollen but no such luck…
My dog, Tsuki, turns 15 next week! He has terrible arthritis and a lot of his leg joints don’t even bend, yet every morning he’s excited to go for a walk. We walk about half a block up the street and then back home, the whole thing takes about 20 minutes with long breaks under the shade of some trees. Of course, I’m not getting any exercise from this excursion, but he gets to smell the smells and enjoy the outdoors.
It does break my heart to see him limping along like he does, but he’s had a good long life for such a big dog.
The average dog doesn’t complain like we humans do. Sigh. Give Tsuki a Birthday hug from me. Are you going to bake him some treats?
Wow, the garden is looking sweet! Give lot’s of hugs and kisses to Milo from Amy & I.
Wait ’til you see the peas! Milo appears to be doing well…acting like he did pre-cough. Will ask Dr. T about mini walks tomorrow…he looks at us with such sorrow come walk time. Torture.
We wish Milo well, of course. Our border collie Gussie is having a rough time too, approaching her 15th birthday with a middle ear problem the last month that leaves her always feeling off balance, if not falling. She has trouble walking except where traction is good, and can’t do steps at all any more. She is better than after the sudden onset a month ago, but still has a long way to go to get back to normal.
Must be strange, walking the mountain without her. Hope Gussy gets to feeling better soon. Give all three (and Francoise while you are at it) a hug from us!
Nice to see your pix on your posts. Say hi to Milo for me. I hope to see you and Paul soon.
You’ve been awfully quiet lately…hoping you are up to no good for once. Don’t make me drive out there and get you drunk on half a glass of white zin, cause I will, you know.
Valynne,
I really enjoy following you and Paul on your journeys and adventures. Being geographic independent (free!) is a goal of mine in the not too distant future, and you both are an inspiration — and a great source of information — to help me keep the wonderful vision intact for my future life meanderings. I am ready to take on Colorado house sitting gigs, and then eventually expand out from there. Let me know if you hear of any opportunities to help take care of someone’s place, and their animals and plants! I’ll keep reading your posts — with enthusiasm!
Michael
You (along with a handful of others in the past week or so) have inspired me to blog about how we landed this current sit. I just posted it this morning.
I will most definitely keep you in mind as we do get requests (mostly from Colorado) from time to time. Let’s try to catch up on life in general in the next week or so…it has been too long!
Yes! We need to catch up a bit. I have been dabbling in so many recent interests — I might be a bit ADD! Took a sprouting/microgreens class and have been successful in growing some great nutritious young vegis. I think that one comes from my Iowa roots, the farmer in me. Harvested some great Sunflower microgreens. Great to throw some hummus and other vegis in a wrap along with a handful of the sunflower microgreens. Those little guys provide a nutritious punch 300% to 600% more than full grown vegis. The gardening thing suits me, I think. Never thought of myself as a green thumb, but I seem to have a knack for it! Thanks for the pics on your blog of your gardening efforts! Talk to you soon. I’ll put you on my schedule to give a ring.
Milo is adorable….I love his bone! Thank you for visiting me the other day. xoxoxo
Your blog is beautiful, Koralee. It makes sense you would love the bone – it is in your favorite color, after all! XOX back atcha : )
How lucky to caretake such a cute dog and great space, especially with your man!
Things often grow like weeds in the sea air, especially if the water table isn’t too far down. It’s 4 ft under my property which must be just right because everything is growing crazy. I have mature gardens in a few short years. Now I have to figure out how to tame and divide. Enjoy the fruits of your gardening labor.
Definately write about Evergreen. I’ve never been to CO and look forward to seeing it through your eyes. Your take on Cambridge and Ptown were wonderful and even though I’m from MA – I ‘saw’ things I had never seen before.
V- I too am at sea level and love the green all around me. The only thing i could grow was peppermint at 5ooo feet. now i feel like i have a real green thumb. enjoy.
