I mentioned in a recent blog post on Martha’s Vineyard that Laura and I had a lovely time in Craftworks, a shop featuring American artisans. I could have spent hours going through hundreds of quotes typed onto handmade paper.
In the end, I chose a few different quote cards to tack to my bulletin board or use as bookmarks. These were my four favorites:
♥ There is more to life than increasing its speed. Gandhi
♥ From this hour on I ordain myself loos’d of limits and imaginary lines. Walt Whitman
♥ Reduce the complexity of life by eliminating the needless wants of life, and the labors of life reduce themselves. Edwin Teale
♥ Ordinary riches can be stolen. Real riches cannot. In your soul are infinitely precious things that cannot be taken from you. Oscar Wilde
Do you have a favorite quote or two that you would like to share? Or, an affirmation, maybe? If so, just click on the comment link at the bottom of this post and type away. Thanks!
I’ve always been a fan of Gandi’s “Be the Change you want to see in the World”. It’s a common one, but I love it.
P.S. LOVE the Whitman quote above!!
I really like the Teale quote, it makes me think of the reoccurring speech in “Up in the Air.” You still must see it! lol
Andrew, you are right. I really must see it – you have convinced me! My eighteen year old sister Emily comes to visit from CA tomorrow – canNOT wait. I bet she’ll watch it with me : ) Will let you know what I think as soon as I’ve seen it…
I found this in a fortune cookie: Your choices change the world.
I saved it and taped it on my bathroom mirror to remind me that each tiny little decision does change the world. It reminds me that I’m more important than I sometimes think.
Accept everything about yourself – I mean everything, you are you and that is the beginning and the end – no apologies and no regrets.”
Clark Moustakas
This is my ALL time favorite quote because we ladies tend to beat ourselves up! We don’t like our hair or our clothes, our noses or our feet, we are too fat or too this, too mean or too nice, too tall or too short! We rarely accept and love ourselves to the fullest! I personally am tired of being so hard on myself and this quote helps me remember that I am fantastic, just the way I am! You are too, V, and so are all of your readers! Love you!
“Some people are alive simply because it’s against the law to kill them.” Anonymous.
“Outside of a dog, a book is man’s best friend. Inside of a dog it’s too dark to read!” Groucho Marx
“Wonderful things can happen when you plant seeds of distrust in a garden of assholes.” character Vincent Mora (in Glitz, by Elmore Leonard)
“If there are no dogs in heaven, then when I die I want to go where they went.” Will Rogers
How we spend our days, is or course, how we spend our lives.
– Annie Dillard
I swear – by my life and my love of it – that I will never live for the sake of another man, nor ask another man to live for mine.
– Ayn Rand
Oh I so love all these quotes of yours…thank you for visiting me the other day…congratulations to your sister! xo
Don’t let negative thoughts reside, rent free, in your mind!
Don’t know who said it, but it’s my new fave: Love what you have, Do what you can, Be who you are.
